Youth Speaks Hawai`i (YSH) is a non-profit organization supported by Hawai`i Arts Alliance which educates students between ages 13 and 19 in the writing and performance of slam poetry. Founded in January 2005, YSH has established a presence in several schools all over Oahu. Presently YSH offers weekly writing workshops, monthly poetry slams, and special events throughout the year.
Weekly Chinatown workshops are held at the Arts @ Mark’s Garage (1159 Nu`uanu Ave) on every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6pm. Workshops are open to all students between ages 13 and 19. Admission is free.
2nd Saturday Slams happen the second Saturday of every month at Arts @ Mark’s Garage (1159 Nu`uanu Ave) beginning at 3:00pm. The slam is open to all poets between ages 13 and 19. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
